Readdressing Apathy

"There is apathy, I believe it can exist. And your comment "of course, apathy, i'm afraid, is a stand as well" is valid, but only valid in the realm of semantics. Words are imperfect."

Mr Ericson, you misconstrue my meaning. I never suggested Apathy did not exist. Apathy indeed flourishes amongst us all. What I was suggesting was two things:

1) apathy is a stand, an attitude, a set of beliefs and whether accidental or deliberate, it therefore has its supporters and detractors. this is not semantics, just a statment of fact. of course, it may not get us anywhere either, but...

2) more importantly, apathy, like it or not, has consequences, good and bad, as much as a stance Pro or Con. modern american elections are in fact built around it.

I'm not sure where I stand on apathy per se. I have been apathetic at times about many things, we only have so much time in the day after all. But as Mr NP and a reluctant politico, it is hard not to be dismayed by how so many people are apathetic about politics, development, globalization, sprawl, pollution -- you name it. I can imagine some later stage in my life where I become apathetic about it as well. It's not like I am doing THAT much to fix any of it.
